YOUR TRANSFORMATION STORY

From “I Think I Know Law” to “I Practice Law”

Every CIHCL student goes through this journey. Here's what to expect.

Week 1-2

The 'Wait, That's How It Works?' Phase

You arrive thinking you know contracts. Then you see your first real commercial agreement and realize textbooks left out... a lot. Don't worry, we've all been there.

Week 3-6

The 'Red Pen Warrior' Phase

Your drafts come back covered in feedback. At first, it stings. Then you start spotting those same issues in other contracts and feel like a legal detective. The transformation begins.

Week 7-10

The 'Actually, Let Me Draft That' Phase

Something clicks. You're no longer afraid of blank pages. You negotiate mock deals with confidence. Your faculty starts nodding approvingly instead of sighing.

Week 11-12

The 'Ready for the Real World' Phase

You graduate with a portfolio of work, a network of peers, and the quiet confidence that comes from knowing you can actually DO this job. Welcome to in-house life.

About the centre

Bridging Academic Excellence with Professional Practice

The Centre for In-House & Corporate Law (CIHCL) was established to address the gap between traditional legal education and the practical competencies demanded by corporate legal departments and in-house practice.

Housed at Shamsher Bahadur Saxena College of Law and developed in partnership with Novation Legal, CIHCL offers certificate programmes that combine academic rigour with hands-on skill development—where participants draft, negotiate, advise, and develop the judgment expected of in-house counsel.

  • Small cohort model for personalised mentorship
  • Faculty with in-house legal practice experience
  • Emphasis on drafting, negotiation, and practical skills
  • Direct alignment with industry requirements

Small Cohorts. Serious Training.

We deliberately limit each course to limted participants to ensure quality mentorship and meaningful faculty interaction.

Got questions?

The Stuff You're Probably Wondering

We've answered the most common questions. If yours isn't here, just ask!

Nope! If you're a final-year law student, LLB/LLM graduate, or even a working professional looking to pivot into corporate law, you're welcome here. We're looking for enthusiasm and commitment, not just degrees. That said, a basic understanding of contract law helps—you should know what consideration means (and no, we don't mean being nice to people).

We record sessions for registered participants so you can catch up. If you miss more than two sessions in a row, we encourage you to connect with the faculty to stay on track. Life happens—we get it.

Expect 4–6 hours per week outside class: readings, short assignments, and draft exercises. It’s manageable alongside work or final year, but it’s not a light refresher. You’ll get out what you put in.

Our programmes are designed to build the skills employers look for in contract drafting and corporate advisory roles. Many participants use the certificate and portfolio work in applications and interviews. We don’t guarantee placement, but we do focus on making you job-ready.

Yes. The certificate is awarded by CIHCL at Shamsher Bahadur Saxena College of Law, in partnership with Novation Legal. It’s a credible credential for in-house and corporate law roles.

You’ll have a portfolio of work, a certificate, and access to our alumni network. We share opportunities and stay in touch—many of our participants stay connected for referrals and advice.

Absolutely. Email us at info@cihcl.com with your background and questions. We’re happy to help you figure out if the programme is right for you.
